题目: Developing Advanced Learning Algorithms for High-dimensional Data
讲座人: Dr. Lei Wang (University of Wollongong, Australia)
The last decade has witnessed an explosion of the number of features in many fields, making learning with high-dimensional data a critical task of machine learning. In this talk, I will present my research work on kernel-based learning, feature and model selection, and their applications to data classification and analysis. The first part of the talk presents a kernel-based class separability measure for supervised learning. The intrinsic relationship of this measure to the radius-margin bound and the Kernel Fisher Discriminant Analysis is analyzed. Through applications to model selection, feature selection, and feature combination of high-dimensional data, the advantages of this measure on computational efficiency and robustness are demonstrated. The second part of this talk shows a similarity-preserving feature selection framework. Important features are identified by a multiple-output regression problem with composite-norm constraint that can be efficiently solved for high-dimensional data. This framework not only unifies supervised and unsupervised feature selection, but also naturally handles the feature redundancy problem in existing methods.
